Taking Bentley camping again this year but where we camp is 5-6 hours away. Last year he did okay but got bored.at stops I put the ling line on him and played fetch but we only stop maybe three or four times. He is used to always doing something. Is it safe for him to chew on something? It is interstate for a majority of it. Only an hour on regular roads. So there will not be a lot of bumps or turns. I was thanking of freezing a Kong before we left and letting him have that. Then maybe getting a nylabone or something??? What do you guys do for your dogs on long road trips? Honestly it will only be for the way there. On the way back he is so tired from four days of swimming, playing with other dogs ect... he sleeps all the way home, lol. Only waking up to stretch hia legs.

I personally don't give my dogs anything. If they have to be in the car for few hours, they sleep. I stop few times and let them pee but try to stop for a while at one place so they can get a proper off leash walk.

If you feel your dog needs something then a bully stick is great. :)

He does need something, lol. While he did sleep a lot when he was awake he was wanting to do something! He was antsy and when I gave him a toy to play with it kept him busy for a bit but he got bored of it quickly. So I wanted to bring more than one thing.

Recon is a great traveller, but doesn't LIKE being in the car and going for rides. He looks pretty pitiful all the time, so I always bring something and hope he'll eat it to get his mind off of the ride.

We're going to Border Collie Nationals this year in Missouri, about a 6-7 hour car ride from our town. Recon will be crated for the duration of the trip, might come out for one pee stop even though he doesn't need it, to stretch his legs. I'm planning on bringing a cooler with all 8 of my kongs full and frozen for the trip/stay there (four days) and some bully sticks, pig ears, different interesting jerky chews, etc. for the ride. Hopefully he will keep his mind off the trip and focus on the food. While we're at the cabin, he won't be getting much unless he's going to be crated for a long day while we're gone, then he'll get another kong.
